5Good coffee starts hereJul 07, 2007
By Gilmoure "Gilmoure"
Chemex, in my opinion, makes the best damn regular coffee. I've tried french presses, vacuum systems, etc.; Chemex 8 Cup Coffee Maker CM 8A tops them all. And it's not even the coffee maker that is the key but the filter paper. Since the Chemex system was invented by a scientist, back in the '30's, I can only assume he was using some laboratory filter paper in his shop and figured out that was what was making his coffee taste so good.

As far as I can tell, Chemex filter paper removes the slightly sour/acid taste from coffee, that I find objectionable. This, in turn, lets through the complex bitter/sweet flavors and allows me to taste them more fully.

For what it's worth, I grind my dark roasted beans right before using them, grinding 6 cups worth for wife and myself. We've also made our own ceramic coffee pots that have the same size top, to hold the Chemex filters. Works just as well as the Chemex pots. Now, if I can just find an auto-brew device that can use Chemex filters for work...

5Works Great.Aug 19, 2009
By Patrick K. Miller "Keeper of Nothing"
I like these and would recommend them for the Chemex Coffee Maker. Do yourself a favor and use only genuine Chemex filters in the Chemex Coffee Maker, it's the only way to assure great tasting coffee. As usual, Amazon shopping was flawless... easy checkout and quick shipping.

5The paper makes the differenceJun 11, 2009
By Dutch Oven Guy
Using these paper filters beats any other way of making coffee. The paper removes some of the bitter parts of the flavor, but allows the full flavor of the particular bean to come through.

I grind my beans just before brewing with a cheap smasher type blade grinder. Coffee snobs may be horrified, but the Chemex filters make the grinder type seem irrelevant to the resulting brew.

Get the half-moon unfolded filters and fold your own. It is part of the ritual.

5Makes Great Coffee with Less EffortApr 17, 2009
By J. Holmes
I've been through a lot of coffee makers, and hated them all till now.

My biggest issue has always been cleanup! I'd leave coffee-grounds in, be too lazy to clean it up later, get mold growing in the coffee maker's reservoir, and on and on.

The Chemex solves all these problems AND makes a stunning cup of coffee. Making the coffee takes a bit longer, as you basically have to spend about 5 minutes or so watching and pouring... however, it's fun to do! I actually look forward to the task. You find yourself making fine adjustments to your coffee making methods every day, just to see the differences you can make.

Cleanup is where you make up for the 5 minutes of pour time... Takes about 15 seconds... Drop the filter in the garbage, rinse the chemex out, put it back on the shelf. If you use hot water to rinse, it dries instantly... No small parts, no reservoirs that remain damp 24/7 collecting fungus, no series of tubes and tunnels that can never be cleaned. And the coffee is as perfect as you make it.

I'll never us another coffee maker.

Note, I also purchased the lid and stove grid. Helps a lot... I brew 8 cups of coffee in the morning, put it on the stove with the mesh, turn my range to low-medium, and put the lid on. Keeps my 8 cups hot and fresh all day.

5Great filters for the ChemexMar 10, 2012
By Cathy W
Originally, I bought these filters to use in a ceramic coffee dripper (cone-shaped but with flattened bottom) and I invented a folding method for that dripper. It did improve the taste of the coffee a bit, but not really enough to make the hassle worth while. It wasn't until I started using the Chemex Carafe with the filters that I saw a noticeable improvement. Between the two (the filter and the carafe) it makes WONDERFUL coffee. Totally worth it.
